STARTING THE HEALING PROCESS IS THE MOST DIFFICULT PART OF THE JOURNEY

Reaching out and asking for help can feel scary or overwhelming.

I approach the process with respect, care and compassion. I’m committed to providing a safe space without judgment, and to meeting you wherever you’re at in your journey. I’m accepting, loving, and I understand the healing power of laughter. I approach sessions with openness, curiosity, accountability, self-awareness, and willingness to engage in vulnerable connection.

I specialize in working with clients on issues that I have also experienced.

Grief, Loss:

I’ve had a lot of experience with loss and the process of navigating grief. I often describe grief as waves in the ocean. The closer we are to the loss, the bigger and more frequent the waves come crashing. I work with my clients to help them understand that there is no one way to grieve.

That your way is the right way for you. I encourage compassion, kindness and patience. I remind my clients that with change, even good change, comes loss and grief. I create a safe space where I can hold that grief with my clients to let them know that they are not alone.

Co-dependency, Relationships and Marital Conflict:

I’m open minded to all kinds of relationship dynamics, and believe in building trust, safety and security. Security in relationships often needs to come from security in self. I help individuals build their self worth by revisiting childhood experiences that may have informed them that they are not worthy of love or healthy love. I work with couples to help them each feel heard and more understood and I use tools to help deepen communication and connection. I believe that we attract people that activate our childhood wounds. And I believe these wounds come to the light in order for them to be healed. Two individuals healing their wounds together, although difficult at times, can create a truly deep connections

Body image and Self-esteem:

I don’t believe in body positivity exclusively; some days are easier than others. I believe that we are conditioned to see our bodies as less than and constantly in need of improvement. We all walk around with the idea that our bodies aren’t good enough. We must keep them thin, young, able, lighter in skin colour or cis in gender. Whatever your disconnect with your body, I encourage curiosity about the messages around our bodies. How can we accept these vessels we’ve been given. Can we learn to have gratitude (on good days), acceptance (on most days) and love as often as possible? Many of us are disconnected from our bodies, and for many, disconnection was a way of surviving when we were young. I help clients reconnect to their bodies and learn how to feel into and trust what our bodies have to say.

Narcissistic Personality Disorder and Abuse:

I have experience being in relationship and dealing with individuals with NPD and have a clear understanding of narcissistic personality disorder, narcissistic tendencies, and the effects it has on the people impacted by it. People with narcissistic behaviours often will attract highly sensitive, empathetic and/or co-dependent people. I have experience with the patterns that happen in narcissistic relationships and can help individuals to start to understand these patterns and help them to build boundaries and self worth. These tools will help better equip individuals choosing to stay in or to leave these often, toxic relationships.I offer a multidisciplinary range of skills including emotion-focused, experiential, interpersonal, trauma informed and systemic approaches to assist clients in meeting the unique challenges they bring to each session.

I am a Registered Therapeutic Counsellor with a diploma in transpersonal psychology from Clearmind International Institute. I have studied Accelerated Experiential Dynamic Psychotherapy from the AEDP institute and continue my education in other models of therapy. I offer individual and couples counselling on-line or in person from my office in Victoria BC, Canada

TESTIMONIALS

“Kara has been a deep and grounded support for me. I feel an immense sense of safety in sessions with Kara. That she not only understands me deeply but also accepts all of me- even the parts that I want to deny or disown.
Kara’s support is deep and heart centred. She will always bring a poignant question or laser clarity to shine her Ioving light in the places I cannot see, all with a touch of humour, and an immense well of love. I leave sessions with a better sense of who I am and what I want in the world and a more rooted feeling in that place of my authentic self.”

“Kara Wouters is a wonderful human. I can say this, because I've known her and watched her grow, through many of life's hardest trials, for over nine years. Kara's genuine desire to uncover hidden truths, to live in authenticity, to be the best mother, friend,
therapist and human that she can be is the driving force of her life. And she does it all with great humour, an open heart, and deep integrity.
Good therapists need academic knowledge, great self-awareness, fantastic communication skills and top-notch emotional intelligence. A great therapist has all this and the ability to show up and be authentically present with their clients. I am fully confident that this is Kara Wouters.”
